Project Fear is alive and well and, in case you were worried that the BBC had relaxed their vigilance, the state propaganda mouthpiece was at it again this morning on Radio Scotland.

They wheeled out two economists, the first of whom assured us that full fiscal autonomy within the UK would be a disaster as there would be a shortfall between tax revenue and spending of up to £5 bn. This would mean a choice between, or a combination of, tax increases, spending cuts or borrowing.

Well, that’s not something to look forward to at all, is it? We’d be better off remaining with the UK’s current system which means ... oh dear, stringent austerity and an increasing national deficit. Funny how Radio Scotland never mentions that.

In fact, in case we had missed the point, the second economist they wheeled out was talking about increased autonomy for UK cities, something which George Osborne seems to be in favour of. Mr Osborne was highly praised by the interviewee, reminding us just how lucky we are to have such a man in control of the UK’s finances. Phew, that’s a relief, isn’t it? Until you take a look at the news Good Morning Scotland failed to report.

It seems Mr. Osborne’s talents are not producing quite the results expected. Government borrowing increased by 10% last month over the same month last year and the UK’s deficit reached a staggering £1.43 trillion, which was £100 billion higher than Mr. Osborne had predicted. The deficit is now 80%of UK GDP, which really should be worrying people but seems not to concern Radio Scotland, who are more worried about a potential £5 billion deficit in a fiscally autonomous Scotland.

Don’t forget, folks ... Be afraid. That’s what they want. Expect lots more stories of potential economic disaster for Scotland unless we leave everything in the hands of Westminster.

As if that isn’t going to be bad enough, you can also expect a lot more reports of terrorist activity because you need to remain scared so that you want to hide under the protective blanket of UK security. Why does nobody think it might be safer to live in a country that doesn’t want to bomb Muslims than to live in one which goes out of its way to attack anyone it perceives as a potential threat?
